My Personal Fitness Journey

I am a certified group fitness instructor and maintain my certification through continuing education courses. I can take physical classes, view webinars, or read articles. While cleaning my home office I came across one of my fitness magazines and in the upper right had corner it said, “Earn CEUS: Cancer Recovery & Exercise”. I immediately turned to the article titled “Working Through Cancer: Exercise as a Part of Recovery”. That’s the same thing my BFF said about her breast cancer journey.

I read the article hungry to know more about exercise and recovery. I already know first-hand cancer is only second to heart disease as Americans leading cause of death.  Cancer claimed by dad, uncle, cousin, friends, coworkers, and so many more.  I want it gone AND I want people to survive better if diagnosed.

The article explained how exercise trainers and instructors can make a difference to those who receive a cancer diagnosis by encouraging them to engage in regular exercise and healthier eating before, during and after treatment.  The research supported benefits of exercise for people with cancer.  The article did focus on breast cancer, its treatment and side effects, how to best assess a breast cancer client and obtain medical release and provided basic exercise program guidelines. There is even a Cancer Exercise Training certification a fitness professional can obtain.  I did pass the quiz (open article) to earn those continuing education credits.

Several days later while organizing a file drawer I found a book I got when my dad was going through colon cancer treatment. That was 1987……  I opened the cover and there were some notes I wrote from a support group session. See what is highlighted in photo.  “lethargy – need to so some exercise; less side effects & better recovery, less depression; exercise 3 times a week” Look closely at reprint date of the booklet…. October 1987.

Need to do some exercise […] has side effects & better recovery, less depression. Exercise 3x a week.

Wow what confirmation!!!  Now understand why the timing of my business launch is in October. GOD’s delay is not GOD’s denial.  It’s HIS timing and we must be faithful and wait on HIS timing.
